Courtyard House

The design is drawn closely from Frank Lloyd Wright and traditional Japanese designs. There are three buildings connected by a cedar post pergola. The rusticated base of poured concrete batters back at a angle to create a sense of permeance and stability. This is capped with brick precast trims at the lower level with windows set-in deeply. The main level is clad with cedar and poplar custom sawn in two sizes from trees taken from the site. Cantilevers and eaves lift up in several layers to create lightness to the roof form, the shadow lines also provide ventilation. The garage outbuilding has an office above with loggia overlooking the courtyard and pavilion. The third building is a traditional Japanese structure with basalt rock stone foundation and tile roof imported from Japan.
